About Me

I'm Gianluca, a system integration specialist, and now work full-time in my first year after completing my three-year apprenticeship.

I've been interested in computers and IT since I was a kid. During my apprenticeship, I was able to gain a lot of practical experience and continuously learn new things. I work in the internal IT department of a small company. We don't really have a traditional separation between "first-level" and "second-level" support, so during my apprenticeship I got to work in a lot of different areas and gain experience with a pretty wide range of tasks.

What fascinates me the most are large infrastructures. Server clusters, network infrastructure and storage systems have interested me for a long time, and I'd like to keep learning more about these areas in the future.

Recently, I've also become more and more interested in web development. I find topics like architecture, tech stacks, scaling and databases really interesting, even though I still have a lot to learn and don't have nearly as much experience in these areas yet.

In my day-to-day work, I spend a lot of time in the Microsoft Cloud, working with infrastructure in Azure as well as MDM with Microsoft Intune. At the same time, I also work quite a lot with identity solutions like Entra ID and IT security.

I wouldn't necessarily say that I enjoy working with Microsoft products, but I do like how accessible and beginner-friendly many of their solutions can be. In the long run, I'd like to learn more about how you can build alternatives to these kinds of solutions yourself, for example using self-hosted open-source software or personal projects.

To learn more about these topics and simply try things out, I run a small homelab at home where I experiment and try to gain experience in different areas.
